Can collapses be avoided?
No. Solution and mechanical failure cause rocks to collapse. Soil piping is another cause of catastrophic collapse. The land surface often collapses without warning into voids and caves. Deep caves can sometimes be detected with geophysical instruments, but shallow voids are difficult to detect, even with test drilling. The entire Transpark site is riddled with sinkholes, evidence of continuous collapse. The ITA plans to buy the Transpark site without any investigation, or even any reference to extensive studies already completed by scientists. When runways collapse, lives can be lost.
