Without a doubt the number one etiquette violation is the wedding party chewing gum as they march down the aisle. Nothing looks worse on your video! A frequent error is when the ushers forget to escort the parents and/or grandparents out of the sanctuary after the recessional. If you plan to include the lighting of the unity candle in your ceremony, carve away enough wax to expose a minimum of one half inch of the candle’s wick. We’ve seen couples spend embarrassing amounts of time trying to light the unity candle. Mechanical (aka “no drip”) candles cannot be re-lighted without replacing the inner candles. When these candles are extinguished, the wax hardens and completely covers the wick, preventing them from being lighted again. Do not light these candles for your pre-ceremony photography session with the intention of re-lighting them prior to the ceremony. The use of candles in outdoor ceremonies is an exercise in futility.
