Did AICR/WCRF “Admit Flaws” in Cancer Report, as the Meat Industry Claims?
The US meat industry and its allies have mischaracterized the AICR/WCRF expert report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective. Representatives of the meat industry have claimed that AICR/WCRF has “admitted flaws” in the report and reported them to the USDA Dietary Guidelines Committee. These false claims have been repeated by individuals and institutions sympathetic with the meat industry’s agenda. As none of these outlets contacted AICR to check on the accuracy of these claims, let us be clear: We do not consider the report “flawed.” On the contrary, we at AICR stand firmly behind the expert report and its conclusions – including its finding that convincing evidence links diets high in red and processed meat to increased risk of colorectal cancer.
