Did firefighters reports of job satisfaction and performance change after the Oklahoma City bombing?
Oklahoma City firefighters described improved job satisfaction during the year after the bombing more than firefighters in the comparison group, but the two groups didn’t differ with respect to current job satisfaction. About 80% rated overall job satisfaction “very high” or “high.” Half of the firefighters said their job satisfaction had not changed due to the bombing, and three-fourths of those who reported changes said they were positive. In diagnostic interviews, three out of four firefighters appraised their own work performance as satisfactory or better, and four out of five said they were proud of having their job.
