The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) enjoys tax-exempt status since it is a religious organization but the tax-exempt status comes with a prohibition from hosting or supporting partisan political activity. Contrary to the prohibition, however, there’s evidence to indicate that the ISNA is in the tank for Barack Obama. At its national convention last week in Columbus, Ohio, the ISNA hosted a campaign booth for Obama and then officially endorsed the candidacy of Obama for President. Consequently, the question is being asked: Did ISNA and the Obama campaign violate tax and election laws in this instance?
