Did Texas execute another inmate tonight?
Yes. Texas prison officials were preparing Tuesday to execute a death row inmate convicted in a robbery in which a 22-year-old man was shot and killed. Condemned murderer Reginald Blanton was looking to the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday to keep him from the Texas death chamber, where he’s scheduled for execution Tuesday evening for the shooting death of a man during a robbery more than nine years ago in San Antonio. Blanton, 28, was sentenced to die for the shooting death of Carlos Garza, 22. Garza was shot to death in his apartment. Blanton maintained his innocence, but a security video showed him pawning two gold necklaces belonging to Garza about 20 minutes after the shooting. He also was wearing jewelry identified as Garza’s when he was arrested. Blanton’s attorneys went to the Supreme Court trying to halt the punishment, arguing that his execution warrant was flawed, jury selection at his trial may have been improper and earlier legal help with his appeals was deficient.
