Did the soviet union become a superpower the same time the USA did?
no the USA never became a super power until about 1970 when the US navy took over as the worlds Biggest Blue water Navy from the Royal Navy I believe in 2009 the second biggest Navy is the RN and russia did amass an army of about 7 million in 1944 but took another 20 years to build up its Military it was the size of NATO the British and the french had enough Nukes in Europe to wipe out Russia with spares without the USA that kept the USSR in check remember the UK had its own Independent Nukes in 1946 and the worlds best spy network was and still is the British I was in germany wnen the US spy plane was shot down and saw the Photograph taken By a Vulcan showing the Sam Missile doing its Job and the British Never had a single Vulcan Tracked let alone short down there is a lot of ego but the USA had some Big allies that allowed the USA to refine its military hardware before taking over as the worlds largest Military power and even today we still believe the Russians in relation to Hardwar
