Disneyland-Is there a basketball court in the Matterhorn?

0

The Matterhorn ride at Disneyland does have a basketball hoop and about the size of a half court within the mountain itself.  There is an urban legend that Walt Disney created the basketball court within the Matterhorn to deal with some city ordinance but it was actually created by a Disney worker.

Interestingly enough there is a small area inside the top of the Matterhorn for climbers that climb the Matterhorn in costume.  This is the area where the climbers spend time changing into costumes for climbs or waiting to perform due to weather conditions.  So the basketball hoop and court within the Matterhorn came about when one of these workers wanted to find a way to pass the time while waiting.  So they put up a hoop and backboard and then later they added floor markings so it looks like an official half court even though technically the area isn’t exactly large enough for a regulation half-court.

Here is a picture of the court here.

If you have time here is a youtube video that goes through the entire details of the basketball court in the Matterhorn.  At 5:32 within the video you can see the court itself.
