Do accent modification programs really work?
Absolutely. Of course, you will still have your accent after completing your program at Accent Enhancement. It is a key component of your personality and deeply ingrained from your earliest development, so it will not disappear altogether. However, you will make significant gains in intelligibility by focusing on three core areas: Intonation, Pronunciation and Grammar/Language. To do this, you will need to practice consistently (i.e. daily) in order to retrain the motor skills and reinforce other content (such as grammar and other language elements). You will need to focus your practice on the target areas that will produce the most amounts of gains in the shortest amount of time. Finally, you will have to use what you’ve learned during the program in all the contexts in which you interact with other people (work, home, social environments, school etc.).
