No rabis is a communicable disease. Dogs can get it from being bitten by say a rabid raccoon. That’s why we innoculate dogs against it. We hear when someone is bitten by a rabid dog because it’s such a big deal, fatal, and the antidote involved many painful injections. No one wants to go through that if they don’t have to, used to be they had to kill the animal to determine if it was rabid or not, and this was a big deal if it was a beloved pet. I think that now they have a test. Anyways many, many people are bitten by dogs each year, very few get rabis.
