Do answerphones for ordinary and cordless phones give off EMFs?
All answerphones with plug-in transformers (the “box-like” adapter plugs) are surrounded by significant levels of mains-frequency magnetic fields within 50 centimetres, but do not give off RF electromagnetic fields. With a cordless phone however, the answerphone is built into the base unit. The base unit for a digital cordless phone is likely to be giving off RF electromagnetic fields at all times, even when the handsets are not in use. The only way to be sure whether or not the answerphone attached to your phone is giving off EMF radiation is to measure the fields.
