Do dietary guidelines for pregnant women apply afterwards when breastfeeding?

To an extent, yes. Everything you eat still gets to the baby, but you don’t have to worry as much as when you were pregnant. Before you ate so that your baby would get all of the nutrients and grow properly. That still applies, however another thing to consider is the fact that now, if you have too much sugar or caffeine, you will also have to worry about them being colicky or hyper. The way it works with you is how it will affect the baby. You want to still eat plenty because, although your milk supply probably won’t lessen, it will still take away valuable nutrients that your baby needs. You should still drink a ton of water because nursing will cause you to lose a lot of fluids, so you need to make up for what is lost.
