Do dream dictionaries work?
In my opinion, they are not worth the money. The “idea” behind dream dictionaries is that dream symbols mean the same thing for each an every one of us. There are a few problems with this theory. We all have different associations towards these dream symbols, so when two people have a dog appear in a dream, and one loves dogs and the other fears dog, the dog symbol will have different meaning to the two people. Also, different dream dictionaries have different interpretations of the same symbols. If dream dictionaries are the right way to interpret dreams, then which dream dictionary is the correct one? When it comes to myself and my dreams, dream dictionaries do not apply to them. I interpret my dreams based on my feelings in my dreams, and how I react to what is going on in them. Though I am almost always aware that I’m dreaming (lucid dreaming), I might not see why I had it until I’ve woken up.
