Do food handlers need to wear a hat?
All food handlers must wear appropriate protective clothing. A hat is not specifically mentioned in the regulations. Action will not be taken against you for not wearing a hat in the normal course of your working business however, if we received a food complaint of hair in food and your employees where not wearing protective head covering the council may consider taking formal action, because you would not be considered to be wearing appropriate protective clothing! So play it safe – wear a hat!
