Do french irregular verbs stay irregular in every tense?
Verb irregularities do indeed change depending on tense. Some verbs are only irregular in one tense, others are irregular in many tenses. For example avoir is irregular in the present tense, but is regular in the imperfect tense (avais, avais, avait, avions, aviez, avaient). Etre, on the other hand, is pretty much completely irregular. Most verbs which are irregular in other tenses are irregular in the root formation, but are regular in the conjugation. For example, with avoir in the future, the root is “aur”, but the conjugation follows the regular pattern (aurai, auras, aura, aurons, aurez, auront).
