Do higher education institutions need to address the gender pay gap?
While equal pay reviews have been considered good practice for several years, the Gender Equality Duty’s specific duties for England and Scotland now require public bodies to address equal pay and the gender pay gap directly. Many universities are still in the process of evaluating jobs in order to implement the 2004 Framework Agreement and reposition jobs on the single pay spine. It may not make sense for them to do an equal pay review until this process is completed.
