Do I have to buy a widescreen 16:9 television in order to watch Freeview?
No. Conventional 4:3 televisions work perfectly well with Freeview. The aspect ratio is the ratio of the width to the height of a television broadcast or a television set’s screen. Most viewers and retailers are extremely confused about aspect ratios and widescreen. Some broadcasters seem to be equally confused. Some programmes on some Freeview channels are broadcast in 16:9 widescreen format. Regardless of the aspect ratio, all programmes can be viewed on all televisions.
