Do semantics EVER fall into place?

Hi everyone! I have a question that I guess parents of older children can help me out on. My son Nicky who will be turning 4 in July still struggles terribly with semantics. For instance, if he wants me to pick him up he’ll say “Pick YOU up mommy.” Instead of saying “I want to listen to music” he’ll say “I want to listen FOR music.” The list goes on and on. I’ve tried everything from correcting to modeling to pausing and making a confused face as a non-verbal prompt to self correct. I’ve also tried throwing the question back to him (this was suggested by his speech therapist) and say “Pick WHO up?” He does correct when it is brought to his attention, but he doesn’t seem to be internalizing the skill to the point where he’ll say it correctly the next time. I was wondering if anyone else has or had this problem and whether they found it gets better over time. This has been an issue for a pretty long time and it doesn’t seem to be improving much. Is he in speach/language therapy? Abigail
