Do sugar gliders make good pets for children?
Gliders are considered adorable and cuddly by many people, and can be a very appealing temptation to many children. Sugar gliders are extremely fragile, however, and many children (especially young children) do not have the skills required to be consistently gentle with a pet glider. A glider may not be consistently gentle with a child, either… gliders have very sharp nails and teeth, and even during friendly play a glider could injure a child. When gliding and playing, gliders have often landed on heads or faces… would you want your child’s face to be scratched (even accidentally) by a pet glider? Another thing to consider is the glider’s nocturnal nature… many children are asleep when a glider would be awake, and vice versa. Finally, gliders have very specific dietary and maintenance needs… frequently a child (again, especially a younger child) will not have the patience or skills to be responsible for such a complex pet. This is not cause to be instantly discouraged, though,
