They take both currencies, but I would highly suggest you to exchange your dollars into Mexican pesos and pay directly with pesos as it gets more value (about 13 pesos per dollar) because if you pay with dollars in any shop they will take your dollar for only 12 or 11 pesos. There are many exchange houses as you get off the ship.
