Do tritium night sights pose a health threat?
Tritium (3H) emits an extremely low level beta radiation. If it should be released from its sealed source, it quickly disperses. It is lighter than air and dissipates very quickly as it bonds with other hydrogen atoms. Tritium does not penetrate clothing or skin. The amount of tritium used in night sights is an insignificant quantity classified by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as being “below regulatory concern”. In short, tritium poses no health threat to the owner of night sights.
