No, you don’t need to. You don’t, in fact, ever “need” to cast a circle. However, I do believe that you should. The circle is a sacred, safe place filled with positive, protective energy. It is a place where you feel emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically safe. I believe this is important for your state of mind. Casting a circle also helps to put you into a ritual state of mind, which is very important. Some say that casting a circle before any magical rite contains the energy within that circle. They then let it build up and release it all at a single point in time. In the end, though, it is up to you.
