Do you steal a blank cheque or a cheque made payable to a supplier?
The first question is what type of cheque to steal. There are two options (blank and completed) and both come with their benefits and their problems. Blank cheques are just that, blank. This means that the employee can make the cheque payable for any amount that he wants, make it payable to himself or anyone else, and date and use the cheque at any time he wants. But, the employee will have to forge the signature. As long as the handwriting of the forgery is not traceable to them, there is limited chance of them being found from the forging of the signature. Cheques that have been made payable to other parties (and have been signed) may be stolen before they are mailed. This removes the need for the employee to forge a signature. But, the cheque is made payable to someone else and, without changing the payee or forging an endorsement, the cheque is useless to the employee.
