Yes but I think they should be more careful of the Canadian shows being chosen to ensure they are actually entertaining. I don’t know if we would have Corner Gas if we didn’t have this plan. Our country is becoming more and more American and anything that actually helps us develop some sort of identity would be fantastic.

By law, television and radio are supposed to have a minimum amount of Canadian content. It’s to help promote Canadian entertainment. How well the “act” (another word for law) works could be debated.
This is governed by the CRTC. It depends on whether you are talking about television and radio funded by the public purse (that would be CBC radio and television) or private stations. If you are talking about CBC, yes, they should carry Canadian content. If you’re talking about commercially funded stations, they are going to carry whatever will give them the highest listener or viewer rating.
