Christianity and all the other Abrahamic religions actually have roots in the ancient beliefs surrounding the “Sun Gods”. Many religions have myths about the son of God falling, and then rising from the dead — much like the sun rises and sets (the term “sun set” supposedly comes from Egyptian myths about the evil God, “Set”, trying to defeat his brother, but I can’t attest to whether that piece of folk lore is fact or fiction). The stars, moon and sun were all considered Gods by ancient cultures, which lead to numerous myths being born from those beliefs. These same myths continue to be told in the form of modern religious teachings, although many of them have been reinterpreted to have literal meanings (the son of God, for instance). What’s interesting is that the cultures that worshiped heavenly bodies like the sun or the moon had a tendency to become more advanced that those who worshiped an unseen God, like Yahweh of the Abrahamic religions.
