Does a fence require a fence permit?

Yes, fences require a permit prior to installation. In addition, UDO 6.09 prohibits fences greater than six feet in any side or rear yard. Fences may be located in front yards provided they do not exceed 42 inches in height and are not located more than 15 feet forward of the building line. The finished side of the fence must face outward unless the abutting property consents to having the unfinished side face him/her. Maintenance on 50 percent or less of a fence does not require a permit. Relocation of an existing fence requires a new fence permit.
