Does a halogen bulb emit UV radiation?
Halogen bulbs do emit UV radiation. The journal “Autoimmunity Reviews” published a study in 2009 noting that in an area right next to an unshielded halogen bulb, UV output matched or exceeded the UV output of the sun, and even at 4 inches away the rays were enough to affect skin. The study specifically recommended shielding halogen bulbs with a silica glass cover to block out the rays. It also indicated that the anti-UV coating found on many bulbs is not enough to block all UV rays.References:”Autoimmunity Reviews”; The Risk of Ultraviolet Radiation Exposure From Indoor Lamps in Lupus Erythematosus; Rachel S.
