Does a sustained increase in hand hygiene compliance reduce rates of healthcare-associated infection?
This review sought to establish whether there are effective strategies to improve hand hygiene compliance, and whether such strategies are effective over the short or longer term, and whether increased compliance reduces health care-associated infections. This review considered any intervention intended to improve compliance with hand hygiene using aqueous solutions and/or alcohol based products. Educational interventions reviewed included educational meetings (teaching sessions).
