Does any one throw the javelin?
Not many people in the USA throw the spear because it is considered unsafe by most states scholastic sports governing bodies. The good news for the folks who have a chance to throw the javelin is that colleges DO throw the spear in competition; so, with a modicum of talent and a little coaching, you might look like easy points at a conference meet to a college coach and thus a good scholarship prospect! Most of the college spear chuckers that I know are multi-event people who either throw other implements or participate in heptathlon, decathlon, etc.
