Does anyone know how to boil cans of condensed milk to make caramel for a caramel tart?
It needs to be sweetened condensed milk. 1. Buy a can of sweetened condensed milk. 2. Remove the label. Do not open the can. 3. Boil enough water to ensure the can is submerged when placed in the pot. 4. Boil the submerged can for 3 hours. 5. Remember to add water from time to time because the water will evaporate, leaving the can exposed. If the can becomes exposed while boiling for too long, it will explode. 6. Remove the can and let cool. 7. Open the can with a can opener and use as a sweet spread or dip. It’s quicker to open the can first though… If you do that, use two parts condensed milk to one part sugar and one part butter. 1. Melt equal weights of brown sugar and butter in a pan and simmer on a low heat until the two become a smooth liquid. 2. Add sweetened condensed milk and raise the temperature very gently until it starts to simmer. Keep the temperature low and stir continuously until brown. This should take around 20 minutes.
