Does anyone know if mayonnaise REALLY kills head lice and nits?
Actually if applied often enough and long enough, the mayo treatment can work. The reason it can work is that when you use this method of treatment is the well secured plastic bag/cap over the head will assist in shutting off the air supply for the lice. It is suggested that you leave the mayo/bag on overnight rather than just a few hours. You will need to use a nit comb all the same in an attempt to comb out the dead lice and the nits. A really good shampoo or Dawn dishwashing liquid is advised afterwards to remove the mayo (grease) The treatment should be repeated several times over the next few weeks. You also need to wash bedding daily and check all family members and pets. Eyelashes should be treated also – which is one reason this method might seem more appealing for safety. Olive oil/vinegar or vinegar/mineral oil, tea tree oil are other possibilities. The vinegar has properties which will treat infection. READ ON:
