Hocus Pocus (film) The movie begins in 17th century Salem, Massachusetts where three witch sisters—Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson—transformed Zachary Binx into an immortal black cat as punishment after they have absorbed the life force of his younger sister, Emily (Zachary had tried to stop them and save Emily, but failed, so they condemned him to live forever with his guilt).
