Does anyone know where to buy WILD RICE in sydney supermarket or health food store?
I am a former chef from Canada and we grow wild rice here, it is technically not a rice but the seeds of a wild native grass, farmed by the native people of North America, it grows on swamp lands and is harvested by canoe, and thrashing the plant to the canoe to extract the seed pods. In Sydney Australia, I would probably check the local directory, call around to the health food stores, gourmet food stores or natural food stores. It is not cheap as it is an imported product, but I do know the real maple syrup in Asutralia is from Canada. It does not take as much cooking as regular rice, it pops open when cooked, it has a nutty slightly grassy taste, like a macadamia nut and waddleseed mixed together. When I worked both in Japan and Singapore, they asked me if I had ever foraged for it??, you can mix it with white rice or add it to cooked brown rice as a taste contrast.
