The specifications page at Asus for that particular motherboard: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/answer… It has 4 SATA ports and one IDE port. You can connect up to 4 SATA devices (hard disks or optical drives) and one 40-pin wide ribbon cable IDE drive (your 40GB drive is probably one of these). Just make sure the new HDD you are buying is SATA. Hope this helps.
