Does disneyland strike a blow to chinese culture?
I’m sure that Shanghai Disneyland — like Hong Kong Disneyland before it — will strike some blow to Chinese culture. But it’s no greater blow than everything else that’s happened to China in the past 200 years. War, imperialism, communism, capitalism … Chinese culture lives on, but surely in a different form than if none of these things had happened. Moreover, a bustling city like Shanghai is already a mix of East and West. Disneyland is just one aspect of that partial westernization.
