Nope – “power carved”! I know we’re beating a horse that is beyond dead and is downright decomposed and practically compost at this point but . . . It seems pretty simple to me if you are trying to be honest. I would describe carvings as follows: 1. Using only hand tools – no power: “Hand Carved” (the one exception I would make here is the use of a band/scroll saw to get the basic rough shape) 2. Using any form of power carving tool (Dremel, Foredoms, rotary or reciprocating and the like) – “Power Carved by hand” 3. Using any form of CNC/computer based Laser/Duplicarver etc: “CNC Carved, Laser Carved, Machine Carved” Mix of the above – stated as just that: “Carved using a mix of power and hand tools” blah blah. Or “Hand carved detail from machine generated roughouts.” But again – everyone seems to want to be able to claim the label “hand carved” because there is a perception in the general public that this is more valuable (whether monetary value or artistic merit).
