Does Hemp Seed or Oil contain THC – or any “Drug-like effects”?
Just as there are many varieties of apples, oranges or mangoes- there are many varieties of wheat, corn and hemp. The industrial hemp grown in Australia contains very little (approx. less than 0.3%) of the THC (the drug ingredient) as compared to 5%+ in drug varieties. This insures that industrial hemp, although it grows and looks the same- cannot get you ‘high’, even if you tried to smoke a field of it. The hemp seed (and therefore oil) is the only part of the plant that does not produce THC (the drug). However, on harvesting high THC crops (not applicable in Australia, UK, USA) such as those found in China- the THC pollen from the leaves, flowers and stem can contaminate the seed, thus resulting in a THC effect from the seed and oil produced.
