Does Holland’s Queen Beatrix Have Dual Citizenship?

The Dutch newspaper, Telegraaf, is reporting the possibility of Dutch sovereign Queen Beatrix might also be a citizen of the United Kingdom. This is because the Queen is a descendant of Sophia, Electress of Hanover, and is 942nd in line to the British throne. The Dutch government is keeping silent over the issue, although there may be talks between the politicians. Minister Eberhard van der Laan for Housing, Neighborhoods and Integration once wrote a letter to parliament member Tofik Dibi, about Queen Beatrix’s questionable nationality. It is a sensitive issue in the Netherlands, where there is controversy over two parliamentarians having dual citizensip to Turkey for one, Morocco for the other. The Queen’s sister, Princess Margriet, was born in Canada in 1943 during World War II. It was then she received Canadian citizenship, but had it withdrawn because she was a Princess of the Netherlands.
