No, not with our hardware controllers. The LaserJet 5Si uses an extremely high-speed internal clock that would require us to design a completely new controller and video adapter. Because of this, we don’t have any plans to offer a controller model that supports the 5Si. However, the 5Si is fully supported in software by both the KF-920 and KF-940. On a fast Pentium machine, the KF-920 and 940 provide full rated speed for image printing and are supported under both Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. With Pentium speeds increasing daily, image printing in software is getting faster and faster. Because of this, Kofax’s future direction is to support most new printers in software rather than hardware. The KF-940 is supported by both the KIPP Developers Toolkit and the KIPP ImageControls Toolkit and does a great job of supporting printers with standard Windows drivers.
