There are two versions of LyX: The Qt- and the XForms-version. You can run LyX-Qt under KDE or as Qt-application. LyX-Qt is also available as a native Windows program. For LyX-XForms you need to have the X-Window system (x-server). LyX-XForms OS/2 and Win32 ports exist, but you need to have an Xserver installed and running on these systems.
