Does Obama deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?
I’ve never felt much more than contempt for the Nobel Prize in the first place. It was founded by a man that spent an entire lifetime improving technologies to kill larger numbers of humans more effectively and efficiently with as little effort as possible, who in the final years of his life, as the grim shadow of death stretched across his door, suddenly decided he accounted as the perfect judge of those that make the greatest contributions to ‘the cause of peace’. The committe has certainly bestowed the honor upon a number of individuals with highly contestable ‘peace’ credentials, such as Henry Kissinger and Milton Friedman to name but two, so in the big picture, a popularity prize is hardly the greatest offense ever committed under the banner of the Nobel legacy.
