DOES OUTDOOR ICE DAMAGE SKATE BLADES?

0

Outdoor ice has a lot of debris like dirt, leaves, pidgeon crap, etc. That debris in outdoor ice dulls your blades quickly, which is easily resolved with a good sharpening. If you skate when it’s warm outside, the ice is probably more wet, with puddles. If your skates are waterproofed, that’s not so bad, but be sure to dry both your blades and boots very well after you skate anywhere. BUUUUTTTT….outdoor ice is “slower” ice than what you would find at an indoor rink. The skaters have to work hard to go fast, which makes the skater stronger. It takes more effort to build up speed for jumps and turns. It’s a good training place as long as the ice is safe and smooth.
