Most peanut butters do not need to be refridgerated however some brands of “old fashioned” or “natural” peanut butters need to be refridgerated to avoid seperation of the peanut oil.

not at all. In fact, i’ve never had refrigerated peanut butter. i suppose it tastes the same as room temperature peanut butter, but still, i wouldn’t do it. just…unusual. Anywyas, it’s not a spoilage food, though prolonged exposure to air will expire it, but the same applies to any food.

Unopened and opened jars of peanut butter may be stored at room temperature. Keep the jar tightly closed and store in a *cool* place. Storage temperature affects product quality. Excessive heat will accelerate the loss of fresh flavor and cause oil separation. Cold temperatures, even above freezing, can change peanut butter’s consistency, texture, and thickness. Peanut butter may be refrigerated to retain the product’s optimum flavor, but it will not be as easy to spread. Freezing is not recommended. Actually No, but it is a good habit to refrigerate as you may have touched the butter with knife used in other foods which needs to be refrigerated. It is easier to apply peanut butter if not refrigerated.

Peanut butter that lists among its ingredients “partially hydrogenated oil”, “hydrogenated oil” ,”palm oil”, need not be refrigerated. Those that are “natural”, with only peanuts and salt must be refrigerated. For health reasons, one needs to avoid anything with hydrogenated oils..worse than butter in terms of clogging up the arteries.
