Does Reference Transaction mean the number of reference questions asked or reference materials used?
It is an information contact in person, phone, fax, mail or email that involves the knowledge, use, recommendations, interpretation, or instruction in the use of one or more information sources by a member of the library staff. It includes information and referral services including print and non-print materials, databases including computer-assisted instruction, catalog and other holding records. It is vital that directional questions are not included in the count. Directional transactions involve information that aids customers in using the library.
