Does removing meniscus have any adverse effect?
Trimming a meniscus (partial meniscectomy) does not have any immediate adverse effect. It eliminates the pain and locking and allows high level of activity. However, because of the loss of part of meniscus substance, the shock absorption in the joint is reduced minimally. In the long term patients are advised to avoid gaining weight and to take care of their knees by exercises.
