Does the Data Provider have to use the Facility Code Definition list when populating Field 4 (Point_Type Indicator)?
A.No, it is not mandatory for the data provider to use the facility code definition list when populating fld 4 (point_type indicator). It is very helpful to the IHS liaison when the facility codes (below) are used as it insures that the point submitted by the data provider will be coded with the proper facility type. If the data provider chooses to use his/her own facility codes, it would be very helpful if a copy of those codes would be given to your IHS liaison. However, in the interests of providing the industry with as accurate a representation of the Data Provider’s transaction points, IHS requests that the Data Provider uses the standard facility type definitions.
