That video was wrong in many, many ways. First of all, no, we’re not headed toward the galactic plane. We’re already in the galactic plane, and we’ve always been in the galactic plane. We’re certainly not heading towards the center of our galaxy – that’s 25,000 light years away; even if we were moving at the speed of light (and we’re not, by a long shot) we couldn’t get there in less than 25,000 years. And we’re not going there anyway. It’s not on our orbital path around the galaxy. We have NEVER detected a gamma ray burst inside our own galaxy. Most are more than half the universe away from us. There are no gamma ray bursts happening in the galactic plane. We get hit by gamma rays from distant bursts all the time – you’d never notice.
