Does the Quran say anything about environmental stewardship, and how is that reflected in the faith?
• In Quran: “No living creature is there moving on the earth, no bird flying on its two wings, but they are communities like you.” (Quran 6:38) “Corruption and disorder have appeared on land and in the sea because of what the hands of people have done and earned of evil deeds. Thus He causes them to taste the consequence of some of what they have done, so that they may take heed, repent and reform, and so return to the right way.” (Quran 30:41) • Prophet Muhammad pointed out that there are benefits in planting trees: “;If the Judgment Hour is imminent and anyone of you has a palm shoot (to plant) in his hand and is able to plant it before the Hour strikes, then he should do so and he will be rewarded for that action.” • God has ordained severe punishments for those who damage and abuse natural environment: “Eat and drink of that which God has provided, and do not go about acting wickedly on earth, causing disorder and corruption.
