Don programs like the International Geosphere Biosphere Program of ICSU already do this?
No. The existing international research programs, like IGBP and Global Change in Terrestrial Ecosystems (GCTE) are designed to foster research in areas that are critically important for understanding and managing the environment. These programs, however, are neither designed nor intended to serve as the vehicle for synthesizing that research in order to meet specific needs of policymakers. Individuals within IGBP are active supporters of the MA concept since it will provide a helpful means of communicating the findings of their research to decision-makers.
