For securing the objects from movement while on display, what kind of product should I use (also meets conservation standard)?
Answer “Smaller” to me means a sculpture size range from coffee-mug size to an approximately 36″ square footprint, more or less, so my answer will be based on this mental picture. It could be argued by some that 36″ borders on “largish,” but this will give us a good range to start with and hopefully cover the sizes with which you are working. The size of the footprint is only one factor; the height, actual weight, visual weight, and ease of balance (top-heaviness) of the piece, not to mention your available display space and site requirements, will also inform your pedestal design. I’d like to start by addressing the conservation aspect of your question. With regard to display, there are two basic types: temporary and permanent. Temporary display is associated more with galleries, where the work will be viewed for a finite length of time (such as an art show) and then removed, perhaps to another gallery or to a permanent storage location. Permanent displays are seen most often in museu
